SAIPUA Method: KENZANS with Sarah - September 16

Building Large Centerpieces using Kenzans (flower frogs) with Sarah - September 16th

Intermediate level flower class with Sarah Ryhanen, Founding Director of Saipua.

In my personal floral work I tend to use kenzans (or spiky flower frogs). I rarely affix these lead-bottomed spiked plates to the vase or shallow bowl I'm arranging in -- instead I use them to indicate overall balance in the composition. If the kenzan tips over, something is out of balance. This forces me to work slower with more deliberation. Arrangements are uncluttered and intentional.

In this lesson, I'll share with you my techniques for creating naturally balanced, sprawling arrangements using a shallow bowl with a kenzan. We'll spend considerable time discussing color and texture - the building blocks of compositions - and then each student will select their own materials (sourced mostly from special flower field at Worlds End Farm) and build their own unique pieces.

This class is an opportunity to slow down your usual process and re-examine your flower practice and design tendencies.
