Fiber Retreat: Wool, Textiles, & The Creative Act at Worlds End: September 22 - 24

1,125.00

Instructor: Owyn Ruck, Co-founder and former director of the Textile Arts Center and current adjunct faculty at Parsons.

In time for chillier days, this workshop will provide a visceral exploration of wool and its uses over the course of three days and two nights at Worlds End Farm. Led by Owyn, we’ll experience the natural cycles of producing the raw material, explore the creative process of making textiles, and examine our relationship to the final product.

No prior experience is required; just an openness to connecting with the land, animals, materials, and fellow participants. Conversation and hands-on experimentation in spinning, dyeing, felting and weaving, will allow investigation of how textile traditions, natural fibers and our innate drive to ‘make’ reflect broader human values, desires, and needs. Students walk away with an understanding of the production and uses of wool and textiles, tools & resources for continuing at home, and a renewed connection with the creative process.

The cost of the weekend includes on-site accommodations; students will sleep under the stars at the farm's rustic Tipi Village. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served, and feature food grown on the farm.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Worlds End Farm.
